Sonia

Sonia was born and educated in Sherbrooke, Canada, where she studied classical dance and jazz. Already at the age of 18, she was the coordinator of the Toronto School of Dance.

She taught classical ballet and jazz in Quebec and Ontario, and has been teaching modern dance for over thirty years.

Upon arriving in in Israel, she joined the Batsheva Dance Company, while also teaching modern dance at Bat Dor Tel Aviv and Bat Dor Beer Sheva.

During her years as a teacher she taught at the Kibbutz Dance Company, at Telma Yellin School for the Arts, at many summer courses in Israel and worldwide of the major dance companies. Today, in addition to teaching at Bat Door Beer Sheva, she teaches at the School of the Arts, Arison Campus in Tel Aviv, and at EMIS at the Green Village.

Sonia believes that if a dancer has doubts his/her desire or ability to become a professional dancer, the question that needs to be asked is “can I live without dancing". If the answer is no, persistence and hard work is required.
